Read the premium’s unit
The fictional call premium is 6 per underlying unit, and one contract represents 100 units. One contract therefore costs 600. If a separate record already quotes total premium 600 per contract, multiplying that 600 by 100 again would overstate it.
Apply the position quantity
For three such contracts, represented units are 300. A payoff of 10 per unit becomes position payoff 3,000. The quote and contract count describe different multipliers.
| Input | Amount |
|---|---|
| Contracts | 3 |
| Units per contract | 100 |
| Represented units | 300 |
| Premium per unit | 6 |
| Total premium | 1,800 |
Use compatible underlying units
A stock leg measured in shares must match the option units in a combined payoff. A one-contract protective position is not automatically one share plus a put when the contract represents 100 shares.
Keep the multiplier contractual
The example’s 100 is a supplied fictional multiplier, not a rule for every exchange or product. Check the actual contract specification before using a real quote. The Academy tool lets the input be stated explicitly.
