Treating a consultation proposal as a current standard

A consultation draft or planned publication date does not establish an already effective reporting requirement.

Read the July 2026 announcement as a plan

The GHG Protocol FAQ announced consolidation with ISO and a planned 2027 consultation and 2028 publication timeline. The announcement is evidence of the development process, not an already published consolidated replacement.

Keep legal applicability distinct

A reporting programme or regulator can set its own applicable requirements. A methodological standard’s status alone does not settle every entity’s legal obligations. This resource does not assign a jurisdictional compliance rule.

Name the source and version used

Record the published document or actual programme requirement underlying the calculation. When discussing proposals, label them as proposals and avoid presenting anticipated details as settled conditions.
