Building an ESG emissions-data work sample

A useful work sample explains what an emissions number covers and how its calculation can be reproduced.

Choose a bounded original dataset

Use fictional activity and factor values or properly sourced public records with explicit coverage. Do not put employer or client records in a public portfolio. A small synthetic dataset can show the analytical method without claiming company assurance.

Include one reproducible data issue

A MWh/kWh mismatch, missing record or denominator-scale error can show how you identify and correct a problem. Preserve the original definition and corrected calculation rather than simply overwriting the value.

Keep credentials and outcomes separate

Completing the exercise does not provide a professional designation or certify an inventory. Explain which conclusions follow from the example and which require published-method or entity-specific evidence.
