Identify what was measured
A record of CO2 mass concerns that gas. A CO2-equivalent record can combine gases under a stated equivalence metric. The metric, gas coverage and time horizon belong in the record, especially when data sources use different assessment versions.
State the weighting convention
In a simplified mathematical exercise, gas masses are multiplied by specified equivalence weights and added. The weights must be associated with the intended metric and horizon. This library does not insert unsourced current global-warming-potential values into the example.
Keep both unit and coverage visible
| Label | Required context |
|---|---|
| kg CO2 | Mass of carbon dioxide |
| kg CO2e | Metric, gases and equivalence convention |
| t CO2e | Metric tonnes plus the same metric coverage |
Avoid correcting only the scale
Dividing kilograms by one thousand converts to metric tonnes; it does not convert CO2 into a multi-gas CO2e inventory. A mass-unit correction cannot repair an omitted gas or mismatched equivalence method.
