Amount and intensity on a common index

Both measures are normalized to prior-period 100. Original intensity units remain in the results; the chart compares changes rather than adding different units.

Use compatible periods and boundaries

Enter prior and current emissions in tCO2e and positive denominators in the same declared unit. The tool performs arithmetic; it does not validate that scopes, methods, business coverage, currency or reporting duration match.

Inspect the original counterexample

The fictional defaults are emissions 100 to 120 and denominator 10 to 15. Intensities are 10 and 8, emissions rise 20%, denominator rises 50% and intensity falls 20%.

Read the normalized comparison

The graph puts both measures on prior-period index 100 so their changes can be compared without adding unlike units. The original intensity levels remain in the results. Two input periods do not establish an intervening time path or a forecast.

Keep undefined percentages explicit

If prior emissions are zero, levels and absolute change remain calculable, but emissions and intensity percentage changes and the prior-100 graph are undefined. The tool omits those rather than inventing a finite change.
