Use distribution data when residual value is unknown

Paid-in 100 and distributions 40 support DPI 0.4×; an unknown residual prevents an exact TVPI statement.

Separate supplied from missing inputs

The original record supplies cumulative paid-in 100 and distributions 40. It does not supply a reporting-date residual value. A blank entry is not evidence that every remaining investment is worthless.

Calculate the observed ratio

DPI is 40/100 = 0.4× on the selected basis. RVPI and TVPI need residual V. Their expressions remain V/100 and (40+V)/100.

Name a conditional lower bound carefully

If one separately assumes residual value is nonnegative on the same basis, TVPI is at least 0.4×. That is a conditional bound, not an estimate of the actual total. A zero residual would need its own evidence.

Resolve the value date and basis

Obtain the relevant residual record and confirm population, currency and cost treatment before completing the calculation. Do not combine a stale NAV from another date with current distribution totals without an explicit reconciliation.
