Activity data and an emission-factor record

An activity-times-factor calculation needs a dated activity record and a defined factor, not only two numbers.

On this page

Define the activity being counted

A fictional facility uses 12,000 kWh of purchased electricity during a stated reporting period. The meter coverage, period and consolidation boundary determine what that activity record represents. A bill can contain multiple locations or estimated rather than measured readings.

Calculate only after matching the units

The demonstration factor 0.4 kg CO2e/kWh is explicitly fictional. Its product with 12,000 kWh is 4,800 kg CO2e, or 4.8 metric tonnes. A real factor must be selected from relevant evidence rather than copied from this demonstration.

Separate arithmetic from inventory validation

The product does not decide an organizational boundary, confirm a contractual instrument or establish reporting compliance. Those decisions need their own method and evidence. The factor log below preserves this context beside the numerical calculation.
