Energy-emissions unit controls

Changing representation consistently preserves the product; changing only one unit can change the represented input.

Read the activity field with its selected unit

12,000 kWh and 12 MWh represent the same energy quantity. If the amount stays 12,000 while its unit changes to MWh, the represented energy grows by one thousand. The control is not merely a display preference.

Read both sides of the factor

0.4 kg CO2e/kWh, 400 kg CO2e/MWh and 0.4 tonnes CO2e/MWh are equivalent fictional factors. A numerator mass change also requires a corresponding numerical conversion.

Perform an invariant check

Enter the equivalent activity and factor representations and verify 4.8 tonnes in each demonstration. This tests the numerical conversion. It does not establish that the fictional factor is suitable for a real site or year.

Keep source details outside the number alone

The factor log should retain geography, version, metric and stages. A result can be numerically correct while the source coverage is inappropriate. The tool does not automatically resolve that applicability question.
